Camp Road House II
A major replacement dwelling on a steeply terraced Gerrards Cross site, using a formal architectural language, engineered level change and a substantial family programme to create a house with real presence from the street and a disciplined garden elevation behind.
This scheme was never about producing a louder house for the sake of it. The aim was to carry off a large, aspirational brief with control: a composed public frontage, a properly resolved plinth and stair, and a rear elevation that turns a complex sectional condition into a calm family garden setting.
It matters to the practice because it shows REA can work confidently in a more formal and classical domestic register, while still handling planning judgement, retaining structure, site levels and presentation at a high-value residential scale.
The brief
To replace an existing house with a substantial new family dwelling that feels composed rather than overblown, and uses the steep site positively rather than fighting it.
The response
REA developed a formal front elevation with a stronger entrance sequence, a disciplined plinth and garage level, and a broad rear terrace and garden façade built around retaining structure, light and long views back to the house.
Outcome
A prestige domestic proposal that feels settled, expensive and architecturally coherent, while still reading as a real family house rather than a collection of luxury gestures.
