Camp Road

A substantial reworking of an executive house in Gerrards Cross, improving street presence, spatial quality and the relationship between house and garden. The project shows how a large existing house can be transformed through composition and judgement rather than through sheer size alone.

The aim was not just to enlarge an already substantial property. It was to give the house a more settled architectural identity, a clearer entrance sequence and a garden elevation with depth, discipline and coherence.

This is important work for the practice because it demonstrates that more classical domestic language can be handled seriously, without becoming heavy-handed or losing control of proportion.

FocusStreet presence, entrance sequence and rear colonnade composition

The brief

To turn a large house into a more composed and resolved piece of architecture, with greater clarity on both the public and private sides.

The response

REA used a more formal frontage, clearer arrival and a rear colonnade to bring order, depth and a stronger relationship between the house and the garden.

Outcome

A transformation project that feels more confident, more settled and more valuable because the architectural language now works consistently across the whole house.
