Wimbledon House
A substantial new-build private house in Wimbledon developed from early design and planning through Building Regulations, tender documentation and contractor negotiation. The scheme is organised around a three-gable composition, bronze anodised frames and a rear elevation treated with the same seriousness as the street frontage.
This project is one of the clearest expressions of the practice's end-to-end role. The work was not simply to secure planning and stop there, but to carry a bespoke house through the stages that determine whether design quality survives contact with budgets, technical coordination and contractor pricing.
The architectural idea relies on calm proportion, clear roof form and a properly resolved relationship between front and rear. The result is a house that reads as one complete piece of architecture rather than a strong frontage with a weaker back.
The brief
To develop a substantial bespoke house with a strong public presence, a credible garden elevation and the level of technical development needed to carry the design properly into delivery.
The response
REA used a disciplined three-gable composition, carefully judged glazing and a lower garden-facing volume to keep the house coherent from every side, not just in the hero view.
Outcome
A fully developed private house project that demonstrates the practice's ability to combine design judgement with technical follow-through and tender-stage control.
